The sea as a place of observation and action

From the coasts of the Uccellina and Giglio to the island of Ponza, piùblu continued its monitoring and collection activities throughout the summer.

In August, piùblu ets continued its activities along stretches of coastline that have been the focus of clean-up and environmental awareness work in previous years. The first activities covered the coasts of the Uccellina and the island of Giglio — places closely linked to the association’s history. In these areas, beaches and rocky shores were found to be in better condition than in the past: a positive result that confirms the importance of continuity in interventions and of maintaining a consistent presence on the ground.

The collection nevertheless resulted in the removal of approximately three cubic metres of waste, largely polystyrene — confirming that the dispersal of materials remains a persistent problem, even in contexts that receive greater attention and care.

On the island of Ponza, the heavy summer tourist pressure and difficulties in waste management make the fragility of the coastal balance more evident. The presence of numerous boats and often insufficient collection systems contributes to the accumulation of dispersed materials along the coast and at sea.

Despite the limited number of volunteers and operational challenges, piùblu intervened to collect approximately five cubic metres of waste, including ropes, buoys, bottles and polystyrene. The activity made it possible to document a particularly exposed situation and to remove materials that represent a direct risk to the marine environment.
