FIDAS and piùblu: a partnership in defence of life and the environment.
Real action that brings together the protection of the planet and the defence of life. Two ways in which new generations can live a sustainable future. From a shared vision that seeks to raise awareness about the importance of keeping the waters of seas, rivers and lakes clean from polluting waste and restoring biodiversity — while also promoting conscious, free and civic gestures such as blood and plasma donation — the collaboration between piùblu, the environmental non-profit association, FIDAS Nazionale and Giovani FIDAS was born.
Among the series of initiatives in defence of the environment planned for the event “We Can Blu It! United for life”, scheduled from 20 to 22 September 2024, no collective action could be complete without the involvement of the Italian Federation of Blood Donor Associations, which will be present with its volunteers to stand alongside a project that is, above all, a project for life. Life and health for our country and for the people who live in it — who should increasingly learn to take care of both.
“A pact,” underlines Giovanni Musso, president of FIDAS Nazionale, “that we are proud to forge and which sees our collaboration as volunteers who, through their regular gesture, help to ensure that — through concrete steps — a future more responsible from both a social and environmental perspective can be built. The values and objectives that inspire piùblu correspond to what has always driven FIDAS’s actions.
Blood and plasma donation is above all a gesture of health, and being well is also good for the environment, because planetary pollution risks becoming a health crisis too. That is why we strongly believe in synergistic actions where positive gestures that protect health and save lives also have a directly positive effect on the environment.” “In this mutual recognition of shared aims and objectives,” explains Musso, “piùblu will promote the importance of donation, while FIDAS will commit to raising awareness within its network dedicated to blood and blood product collection to join in the clean-up of our waters.”
Water is the essence of life; blood is life itself. This partnership finds expression through collaboration in initiatives such as World Rivers Day 2024, where FIDAS and piùblu will promote the importance of donating blood and caring for the environment. The commitment of both organisations will be a side-by-side effort to raise public awareness, also through educational lessons in schools and practical activities involving young people and local communities.
“Acting for sustainability and promoting awareness,” states Roberto Montanari, president of piùblu, “are two commitments that our association aims to pursue through real, everyday actions. Actions that find new momentum in the alliance forged with FIDAS, given that blood and water are both absolute sources of life, and can unfortunately both be irreparably compromised by pollutants and irresponsible conduct.”
“Together,” he concludes, “we can fight for a healthier ecosystem that will help tackle and defeat, with greater ease, the diseases afflicting the planet and its inhabitants. I am optimistic and certain that together we can clean up our waterways and ourselves, promoting healthy lifestyles and virtuous behaviour such as blood donation. Raising awareness particularly among new generations will help FIDAS and piùblu to win these bets together.”
