The ANBI Water Resources Observatory highlights how Sicily’s remaining water reserves are being depleted more rapidly than forecast, despite measures limiting water supply.
The landscapes of the Sicilian interior are taking on characteristics typical of North Africa, with parched, dusty terrain replacing pastures and fodder crops.
Land reclamation and irrigation consortia seek constant collaboration with local bodies operating in the territory, as evidenced by the hundreds of agreements reached with municipalities and provinces and by the memoranda of understanding signed by ANBI with the Department of Civil Protection, the Union of Italian Provinces, WWF and LIPU (the Italian League for Bird Protection).
